What I’ve learned about getting GLUTENED

When you get glutened, you need a reference, because the clock is ticking and you’re injured. I’ve tried alot of stuff – but here’s what I’ve discovered.

Note: if you haven’t already, watch my videos on How to Celiac. While it’s helpful to have a list, it’s even more helpful if you know the “why” to the “what” – you’ll be able to maneuver to respond to your specific situation.

GET THESE NOW, BEFORE YOU GET GLUTENED. I know, it’s an expenditure. But it’s a few dollars now, or far more later. $100 now is cheaper than thousands for health problems later.

  • Full spectrum binder: link (*you could do activated charcoal, but full spectrum is going to be more thorough. And you want thorough here!).
  • Animal Kidney (NOT optional; a must-have!)
  • Homeopathic: Apis 200 (must-have!)
  • Homeopathic: Arnica 200 (also must-have)
  • Homeopathic: LycoArs 200 (Lycopodium + Arsinicum Album – if you have bloating. Note that generally if your celiac presents as a rash, you should be taking Bovista 200 every day 2x; if not, then Ipicach 30 every day 2x. That’s how you’ll heal in the long term.).
  • Green Tea
  • Vitamin C (rose hips or some other non-synthetic source). You can also grind up spruce (not most types of pine!) needles and capsule those too.
  • NAC
  • Astaxanthin
  • Resveratrol
  • Nattokinase
  • Electrolytes (see my fasting video for a DIY electrolyte mix)
  • (Optional) Reishi
  • (Optional) Black Seed
  • (Optional) Marshmallow Root
  • (Optional) Nutritional Yeast, Animal Liver (*eat when you start eating again, gives you a massive boost)

There are two scenarios: empty stomach, and full stomach.

  1. EMPTY STOMACH

If you’ve gotten glutened, but it was on an empty stomach, that’s less-worse in a sense. Grab your full-spectrum binder and toss back a capsule or two – hopefully you can sweep some of it out before your system even knows it’s there! Wait a bit; I’d say 45-60 minutes depending on how fast your typical reaction is (mine used to be 20m flat, now apparently it’s more drawn out), then proceed as below. (*do you homeopathics right away as noted below)

2. FULL STOMACH

If you have a full stomach, taking a binder isn’t going to do much except randomly bind whatever’s in there – probably good stuff. So skip that., and proceed as below. (*do you homeopathics right away as noted below)

THE “GLUTENED” PROTOCOL

Two years ago when Long Covid kicked my butt to the corner, I’d get glutened, and have 25 minutes flat before I was trashed. I’d stay trashed for about three weeks. After a while, I was happy that I had figured it out, because it would only take me three days to heal. As I write this, I got glutened yesterday – and my symptoms are almost 100% gone already (to be fair, now compared to then – I’ve whupped my Long Covid, which makes a massive difference!). But you get the idea: you can do this better or worse, and you want to do it better.

So, the what: you need to (a) minimize your body’s immune response, and (b) do (literally) damage control and minimize tissue destruction.

  1. While I haven’t found a way to “pause” the immune system (I’m searching!) the absolute #1 very first time-sensitive step is to take Apis 200 – right away! Take that every 15 minutes for an hour or two. I’ve found the difference between taking and not taking is incredible. Additionally, take Arnica 200 once every hour or so (don’t wake up for it or anything) until the next day.
  2. Take a 1-5g (~1g = large capsule) of animal kidney. Take again every 3-6 hours for the first day; 1-2x daily the next few days. Really, one should do it, but for animal organs, especially here, more is better. (note: the DAO in the kidneys will help sweet away excess histamine and minimize tissue inflammation and destruction).
  3. About 1-2 grams of green tea AND Vitamin C. I take the green tea as a capsule, not tea, just so I can get more – but don’t forget Vitamin C or it’ll oxidize in your stomach and do the reverse of what it’s supposed to do! (pro tip; this is true alot; always take a little Vitamin C with other antioxidants or flavonoids, e.g. quercetin or whatnot).
  4. Now is also the time for Astaxanthin, Resveratrol, and ~2g of NAC. Basically, all of the above are antioxidants – they’ll help muffle the horribles and sweep out the dead bodies before they trigger cascading reactions. Note that the optional items above will do a bit more than just this; the Rieshi and Blackseed will actually temper your immune response, while the Marshmallow root will augment your mucous layer (note: for Marshmallow root: either grind+capsule, or simmer it low and slow for a LOOOONG time, longer is better. Just putting it into a cup’a’tea doesn’t seem to cut it in my experience).
  5. I also take Nattokinase (and Serrapeptase if you have it) here. I don’t know if it’s crucial, but I like to think of it gnawing at the dead tissue. Note that Natto doesn’t digest living tissue, only scar or clot tissue. So you could probably wait on this if you wanted to, to maximize it. It’s probably not crucial, but whatever.
  6. Repeat the antioxidant flush every 3-6 hours on the day of. Repeat the morning of the next day, and the evening as well.
  7. VERY IMPORTANT: After glutening, you’re done eating! Do not eat for the rest of the day. And do not eat the next day (*here’s where you’ll need the electrolytes – make sure you eat enough salt!). The following day, (or whenever you begin to eat again if you’d like to skip a day or two more – the following holds true for any fasting stint) eat (I kid you not) as much meat as you can possibly stuff down – I typically try to put down animal liver and 3-5 lbs of meat. More meat = ridiculously faster healing. In addition, eat only AIP (Autoimmune Protocol) foods, or stick to meat/animal foods. I’d stick to that for 5 days; 5 days seems to be the “phase one” of healing.

After a day or two, you could also toss back some raw honey. Raw honey is great because it kills half-dead cells (a good thing here), aka “apoptosis.” Cabbage juice is probably not a bad idea either. Beets are also a good option, to help soak up bile. Ginger might also be helpful for some, calm things down. Other than that, animal foods – the more meat the better – are likely going to be your best bet.

Note that in terms of timeline, from what I’ve read and heard it varies greatly. Apparently there was a big push in ye olden days (i.e. 10 years or more ago) in Doc school to say that autoimmune reactions couldn’t happen in less than 4-8 hours. As with many such things, the well-credentialed intelligentsia and experts appear to have gotten away with this misinformation only until the internet proliferated, at which point, people were able to simply look up and read testimonies from hundreds of other people and sidestep the gaslighting. Note however that there is a real difference between the discernable symptoms and the timeline – it does appear that the fast (<4 hour) response is existing autoantibody explosion + mini-cytokine-storm-in-your-gut (which is why it’s important to get the homeopathics and antioxidants going!), whereas the autoantibody generation happens over the next 24-48 hours – which is why many people may not get their most dramatic symptoms until then, depending on how things play out. But it is absolutely the case that things may start as quickly as 15-20 minutes, depending on how volatile your situation is.

At some point – and I’ll update this if and when I find out! – I’m going to find an immunosuppressant herb that can “pause” the immune system to prevent more autoantibody creation. As of right now, I don’t know of any solid options – ergo, I can minimize, but not dramatically minimize, tissue destruction and autoantibody generation. That being said, I wasn’t happy to get glutened, but I was happy to know that I responded this robustly to getting glutened!
